Storms Continue to Interrupt Harvest

Scattered storms are causing light to heavy damage on crops in the Prairie Provinces as farmers scramble to get crops harvested, according to the Canadian Crop Hail Association.

CCHA member companies are investigating 223 claims of crop damage from storms that occurred September 7-13.

“It’s one of those seasons when the hailstorms just keep popping up across the Prairies,” said Bruce Lowe, AG Direct Hail Insurance.

Brian Bernauer of Rain and Hail Insurance Services said that “small, isolated storms are causing devastating losses to many mature crops.” Pea- to marble-sized hail fell during several storms throughout the week.

Companies contributing to this report are AG Direct Hail Insurance, Agriculture Financial Services Corporation, Co-operative Hail Insurance Company, Palliser Insurance Company, Rain and Hail Insurance Services, and Saskatchewan Municipal Hail Insurance.
